As I looked at him today I realized I can barely recall his infancy. I am thankful for those photos of a round and joyful little baby, with a backwards baseball hat on his head, holding a soft baseball in his chubby little hands. I am thankful for the time I have been able to spend with him and the life of our God, who made Mikey in His image, I get to watch develop and share in. As He sat at the breakfast table and I looked at him and then my Bible, I almost asked him if he had read his Bible, but I decided to just read mine out loud. At that moment I got my second gift. As I read Mikey came and stood right next to me and listened to the Word of God being read. He was not prompted, nor did he run off, but he listened, and God laid it on my heart. The Word that I love and hunger for so much has never lost its power, and in the heart of man, especially that of a child or one with child like faith, is it like a great sight that must be seen, a miracle that one can not turn aside from. God flooded my heart, with Moses’ story and how in the wilderness as a shepherd he had to, “turn aside and see this great site”, in relation to the burning bush. My son being drawn to the Word of God reminded me once more the Word is living and active and sharper than any two-edged sword”, it has never lost its power, beauty or ability to draw the seeking heart. This revelation anew for me today was right on time, exactly what I have been asking for. See in a world where the Word of God is moved to the periphery of our culture and out of the daily recognition and practice of most Christian’s lives, God spoke like thunder, “My Word is that which brings faith to the seeking, but they have to hear it and they need a preacher, be faithful, and declare my Word, declare my gospel, glorify my Son”. This is not a directive for me, or ministers only, but for all of us. How can we declare though, when we don’t turn aside and see this great sight? Shut off the world, shut off what you find so important and turn and listen to the Word of God. Learn from the gift of my son Mikey, Listen to the Word that raises the dead and transforms hearts by the Holy Spirit. It is the greatest sight you can see, hear and let get into your heart. When we kneel before Jesus, we can defy gravity!!!
Indeed, Jesus. And the families he gives us to show us what he and we are like.
